I want to show you today the spike stitch pattern. I think this pattern would make a great blanket, handbag or washcloth! Or maybe even a sweater. Why not?!

PATTERN.

Materials I used 2 Fine or Sport weight yarn and an E crochet hook. You can use any yarn you like and matching hook.

Abbreviations

US Crochet terms

sc – single crochet

ch – chain

st – stitch

rep – repeat

Start with an even number of chains.

Skill Level: Easy

Special stitches

 Spike Stitch  

Row 5 – Insert your hook into the next space in the fourth row below the hook. Pull up a loop, pulling the yarn up enough so that it’s even with the other loop on your hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops (just like a regular single crochet).

Row 9 and all other rows with spike stitches – Insert your hook into the next space in the fourth row below the hook  – into the top of the previous spike stitch. Pull up a loop, pulling the yarn up enough so that it’s even with the other loop on your hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops (just like a regular single crochet).

Instructions (in US crochet terms)

Row 1: Ch an even number of chains, skip the first chain and sc each stitch till the end with yellow color, turn your work.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc each stitch till the end with yellow color, turn your work. Change the color. To change the colors begin your last single crochet and then finish it with the new color yarn.

Row 3: Ch 1 with orange color, sc each stitch till the end, turn your work.

Row 4: Ch 1 , sc each stitch till the end, turn your work. Change the color.

Row 5: Ch 1 with yellow color, sc in the next stitch, *1 spike stitch, sc in the next stitch* repeat till the end, turn your work.

Row 6: Ch 1 , sc each stitch till the end, turn your work. Change the color.

Row 7: Ch 1 with orange  color, sc each stitch till the end, turn your work.

Row 8: Ch 1 , sc each stitch till the end, turn your work. Change the color.

Row 9: Ch 1 with yellow color, sc in the next stitch, *1 spike stitch, sc in the next stitch* repeat till the end, turn your work.

Repeat Rows 6-9 for pattern.
