Mermaids and unicorns are my best friends. I have some ideas for making some more of them in the nearest future! And today want to share with you my beloved Mermaid Cup Cozy Mouse crochet pattern. Hope you will enjoy making and using it as much as I do!

PATTERN.

Materials:

  • Any cotton 100% Weight/Yardage 50g/137yds: Cascade Ultra Pima Fine, 100% cotton or Schachenmayr Catania, etc.
  • Size D/3 (3 mm) and H\8 size (5 mm) crochet hooks.
  • 2 yellow buttons
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations (US terms):

ch – chain

st st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

hdc – half double crochet

sk – skip

st(s) – stitch(es)

Skill Level: Easy

Instructions.

Treble strand the 3 colors yarn: yellow, pink and blue.

Row 1: Chain 39 (with crochet hook 5 mm H\8 size). Hdc into the 3rd st and each next st till the end.

Row 2 – 8: repeat Row 1. Break yarn and fasten off.

Sew 2 buttons: for this skip 2 sts and sew the 1st button on the 3rd st. Then skip 2 sts and sew the 2nd button on the 3rd st. I used 2 small yellow buttons and sew them with blue color thread.

On the opposite side *skip the 1 st and in the 2nd st ch 7 , skip next st and  ss in the next st.* repeat twice.

Change the crochet hook.

Instructions for the Mermaid Mouse.

Head.

Round 1: Magic ring with blue color, 6 sc in ring and pull tight. (6 sts)

Round 2: 2 sc in each chain stitch around. (12 sts)

Round 3: 2 sc in each chain stitch around. (24 sts). Move marker.

Round 4: sc in each chain stitch around. (24 sts). Move marker.

Round 5: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st* repeat around. (36 sts). Move marker.

Round 6: sc in each chain stitch around. (36 sts). Move marker.

Round 7: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st* repeat around. (54 sts). Move marker.

Round 8: sc in each chain stitch around. (54 sts). Break yarn and fasten off.

Then make the 2nd head.

Ears.

Round 1: Magic ring with blue color, 6 sc in ring and pull tight. (6 sts)

Round 2: 2 sc in each chain stitch around. (12 sts)

Round 3: 2 sc in each chain stitch around. (24 sts)

Round 4: sc in each chain stitch around. (24 sts)

Then 1 sc in next 5 sts and ss. Break yarn and fasten off.

Pink flower.

Round 1(first and only): Magic ring, *chain 2, dc, ch 2,wrap yarn and pull through last 2 loops of the previous 2 sts and the loop on the hook,

1 dc, 2 ch, ss* repeat from * to * 4 times. Break yarn, fasten off and pull tight.

Yellow flower.

Round 1(first and only): Magic ring, *chain 2, dc, ch 2, wrap yarn and pull through last 2 loops of the previous 2 sts and the loop on the hook,

2 ch, ss* repeat from * to * 4 times. Break yarn, fasten off and pull tight.

Dress.

Round 1: Magic ring with blue color, chain 3, 8 dc in ring and pull tight. Turn. (9sts)

Row 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in the same st, *2 dc in next st* repeat 7 times (16 sts) Turn.

Round 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in the same st, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st * repeat 7 times, (23sts).

Turn and sc all the dress about. Sc the round part with blue color yarn and the upper part with violet color yarn. For upper part (working with violet yarn) make 7 sc before the Magic ring hole, a sc in the Magic ring hole, and 7 sc after it.

Turn. Skip 3 sts and 8 dtr in the 4th st, skip 3 sts and ss in the 4th st, skip 3 sts and 8 dtr in the 4th st, skip 3 sts and ss in the last st.

Tail.

Row 1: Skip 7 sts from the violet part as you can see at the picture below, ch 3 in the 8th st, dc in the next st, hdc in the next st, sc in the next 5 sts. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in the next 6 sts, 2 sc in the last st and turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, 3 dc in the same  st, 1 dc in the next 3 sts, sc in the next st, dc in the next 4 sts, 4 dc in the last st. Break yarn.

Decorate the tail with different colors yarn and slip stitches.

Row 4: Reverse sc with blue color yarn each stitch around the dress with the exception of the tail (as you can see at the picture below). Break yarn and fasten off.

Scales.

Row 1: Ch 26 with light green color yarn, sc in the 10th st, *ch 5 and sc in the 4th st* repeat 4 times. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, and sc in the 1st chain space, *ch 5 and sc in the next ch sp* repeat 4 times.

Row 3: Ch 1, and sc in the 1st chain space, *ch 5 and sc in the next ch sp* repeat 3 times.

Row 4: Ch 1, and sc in the 1st chain space, *ch 5 and sc in the next ch sp* repeat 2 times. Break yarn and fasten off.

Sew the scales to the dress with light green color yarn as you can see at the pictures below.

Assembling.

Sew the ears to the heads using white color yarn.  Sew the dress with light blue color yarn. Sew the yellow color flower inside of the pink flower. And then sew both of them to the left ear with light green color.

So you have 2 heads with ears: one head is with decoration, other is plain. Sew 2 heads together using needle and white color yarn.

Sew the Mermaid  Mouse on the cup cozy using white yarn or glue it as you can see at the pictures below using the hot glue gun:
